To consider the Chief Executive's Report and Recommendation (Report to follow) pursuant to Section 179 of the Planning & Development Act 2000 (as amended) and Part 8 of the Planning & Development Regulations 2001 (as amended) in respect of the proposed Glenfarne Wood Project (ref. 23-C-06) at Brockagh Lower, Moneyduff, Annagh, Laghty, Ardmoneen and Carrickrevagh townlands in Co. Leitrim. Following the consideration of the Chief Executive's report, to accept the recommendation contained in the Chief Executive's report to proceed with the proposed development or to resolve to vary or modify the development otherwise than as recommended in the Chief Executive's report or to decide not to proceed with the development.

Minutes:

Senior Planner Mr. Bernard Greene gave an overview of the Chief Executive’s Report for the Part VIII planning on the Glenfarne Wood Project as circulated to members in advance of the meeting.  Mr. Bernard Greene gave an overview of the development of this project to date and how important this project is to the Tourism and Economic Development of the County being the 2nd largest project in terms of investment just below €8million.

Cllr Sean McDermott outlined his support for this project and expressed his thanks to all involved in this project and for the speed and amount of time spent on this project by staff from both Coillte and Leitrim County Council.

It was AGREED to approve the Chief Executive's Report and Recommendation (Report to follow) pursuant to Section 179 of the Planning & Development Act 2000 (as amended) and Part 8 of the Planning & Development Regulations 2001 (as amended) in respect of the proposed Glenfarne Wood Project

 

Cllr Justin Warnock added his support to this project and pointed out that it will link in well with the development of the SLNCR in time.

 

Cllr Frank Dolan thanked all involved in this project, while acknowledging the potential investment involved. He expressed the significant importance of this project along with its advantages to North Leitrim.

 

Cllr Padraig Fallon stated that he agreed with all the points made by the other members and expressed his support for this project as it will increase tourism and economic development in North Leitrim and the wider County.

 

All Councillors welcomed the idea of a link road to the project from the SLNCR in the future.

Cllr Felim Gurn expressed his thanks and acknowledged all the work that was carried out by all parties involved in getting the project to this stage.

Ms. Mary Quinn Director of Service advised Members that a match funding contribution of circa 240k will be provided by Leitrim County Council under the Capital Investment programme together with funding and land contribution from Coillte. This was noted and agreed by Members.
